Pictures are where you find them. I walk down the street, particularly at dusk and dawn, and see things that strike me as beautiful, odd, unique, or any combination of the three.
Perception is such an odd thing.
I have a friend who is a professional photographer. He recently had surgery to remove a cataract he didn’t know he had from what he had considered as his ‘Less Than Good Eye’. He was completely floored at the amount of visual information that he has been missing.
From an e-mail he sent post-operation:
The cataract on my binocular eye was far worse than my right eye. It was like looking through yellowed glass and was often “smoky”. I had noticed that it was getting markedly worse and that the process wasn’t taking too long…
The result, so far, has been nothing short of spectacular. I honestly can’t believe how bad my eye(s) must have been. I see color now better than I can ever remember; probably better than since I was a child. The sharpness is almost frightening and everything I look at seems to have an added dimension. Blues in particular are vivid beyond my belief and it is truly amazing.
Now the ‘Good Eye’ doesn’t look quite as good as it did. A perfect example of “You don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone” and comes back again.
